The Role of Nurses In Improving Health Equity Essay

The Role of Nurses In Improving Health Equity Essay

The budget allocation for health in the US is high each year because of the increased cost of health care. The high budget allocation aims to increase the accessibility of health care for many Americans (DeNisco, 2019). The development of health care aligns with various policies that look forward to resolving health care problems that have been faced in the past. The two major policies that will be considered in this discussion are the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and the Medicare program (Adeyinka et al., 2019). These two policies affect the current state of health care delivery and population health extensively. While CHIP advocates for the low cost of treatment for children, Medicare is a health program for older people in the US.

CHIP policy is one of the effective programs in the US. Americans have been able to access affordable care as this policy provides comprehensive coverage to millions of American children (Adeyinka et al., 2019). This policy has also been increasing access to care and recommended care which has been proving expensive to many parents. The increased quality of care has reduced infant mortality and improved the overall health of American children.

The second policy is Medicare, which has provided cover to a wide range of older adults above 65 years. This population is prone to diseases because of their condition, and they always need palliative care which makes their care expensive (Figueroa et al., 2018). This program that both federal and state governments fund has increased care among older adults.

These policy issues have an impact on nursing practice. CHIP aims to increase insured American children while Medicare insures older adults. The complexity of offering care to children and adults gives nurses effective skills that improve health care’s overall quality (DeNisco, 2019). CHIP and Medicare are two important policies that have changed the US health care system to a great extent. CHIP plan improves healthcare coverage for children, and Medicare targets older people in the US.
