Health data indicates that New Jersey ranks 22nd in the rate of childhood obesity in the United States and about 13.8% of children between 10-17 years have obesity (Stainton, 2019; State of Childhood Obesity, 2022). Disparities related to race and incomes cause a huge variance in rates among populations. Childhood obesity is a huge risk to children’s productivity, academic performance, and overall health. Besides the inevitable physical health issues, childhood obesity increases children’s vulnerability to substance abuse, chronic diseases, and self-esteem problems (America’s Health Rankings, 2022).
