Spirit Of inquiry Essay

Spirit Of inquiry Essay

In an evidence-based culture, the spirit of inquiry is essential in acquisition of knowledge and new approach to healthcare practices. There are generally two ways of acquiring knowledge: the authoritative depository model, in which knowledge is passed down from those in power, and the evidence-based inquiry model, where individuals collect and analyze evidence to come to their own conclusions. A culture that values a “spirit of inquiry” would obviously be more inclined towards the latter. There are several reasons why an evidence-based culture is superior to one that relies on authorities. First, basing decisions on evidence encourages critical thinking and intellectual curiosity (Bell, 2021). It is easy to take statements made by authority figures at face value, but when we are tasked with finding the evidence ourselves, we are forced to really think about what we are looking at and whether or not it actually supports different operational processes.

As an advanced registered nurse, there is the ability to think critically and deeply about complex issues related to healthcare. This critical thinking skillset is essential in encouraging a spirit of inquiry within an evidence-based culture (Stucky, 2020). In order to encourage a spirit of inquiry, advanced practice registered nurses must first be able to identify appropriate model (Echevarria et al., 2017). This means constantly questioning assumptions, looking for new evidence, and being open to change. As a leader and expert in the field of nursing, there is the need to encourage others to do the same to ensure uniform transformations. In today’s rapidly changing healthcare landscape, it is more important than ever that we question everything and strive to find new and better ways of doing things. The only way we can hope to stay ahead of the curve is by encouraging the spirit of inquiry.
