Type 2 diabetes majorly affects the elderly in Lanham, prince George’s county, Maryland. One of the key challenges of the type 2 diabetes is the financial burden (PGCHealthZone, 2019). The disease has detrimental effects to organ systems the hospitalization rate due to diabetes increases with age (PGCHealthZone, 2019). The elderly who are above 85 years are at the highest risk of hospitalization 37 out of 10000 people in the population. Adults above 45 years have a significant probability of hospitalization than the overall value of hospitalization rate. People below 44 years are less likely to be hospitalized compared to those above age 45. Type 2 diabetes increased six-fold in the American population in half of the last decade (PGCHealthZone, 2019).

Hospitalization rate due to long term complications is also significantly higher among people above 45 years. Diabetes burdens more developed countries compared to the developing countries. Type 2 diabetes prevalence increases in the American population and is a leading cause of death (Khan et al., 2020). Aggressive solution finding efforts, management and death mark some of the burdens of the disease (Khan et al., 2020). Solutions to the puzzle of increase in perveance include patient education on lifestyle, healthy eating, urbanization issues, early diagnosis and patient care (Khan et al., 2020).
