A database denotes a collection of related data kept in a way that allows for retrieval of information as required for different purposes. Database management system (DBMS) is deployed to create, maintain, and access databases for effective use. The DBMS is a database engine and stores and retrieves data as required. The design of a database is essential component since an inconsistent design leads to poor structure (Kumar & Singh, 2018). Such a situation occasions problems that damage the performance of the database and leads to failure of business processes, especially in health care services’ provisions through increased use of informatics.

The design of a database impacts data architecture since the design shows how users, logic, physical storage locations and interactions deploy the data to its meaningful use and application in health care settings. Due to the versatility of databases, they can power all types of project. A database can be linked to a website that captures registered users, tracking of client’s application for services, a medical record system and electronic health records for a health care facility and administrators’ attributes (Peeters & Widlak, 2018). The implication is that a poorly structured database leads to inefficiency in the use of information to make critical care decisions for providers in different care settings.

A database should be reliable and fast in its retrieval of patient health information (PHI). However, when the database design has a poor structure, it means that the other components will not work efficiently and effectively to confer benefits to the users. Vulnerability to a database occurs when it has incompatible structure and cannot protect information because of the inability to restrict the movement of information (Villegas-Ch et al., 2019). Therefore, health entities and providers need to develop database structures that enhance security and protection of vital patient information in the long-term.

W4: Database Design
A database is a collection of data that is organized in a way to allow users to retrieve and use. It is often referred to as an electronic filing system. Database design is the process of creating a model of the database. The model can include a number of attributes and entities, including users, logic, physical storage locations, and relationships. If you had to explain how database design can impact data architecture, what would you say? What example would you use to demonstrate or establish your explanation?
