The advancement in healthcare highly relies on translation research as it entails changing basic research into an outcome. These outcomes have a direct benefit on human health. The insights gained from the basic research always need an effective translation process to align with the health needs of humans (Banner et al., 2019). This discussion focuses on the role of translational research in advancing equitable access to health care and preventative services and policies based on population health.
Translation research forms the basis of developing evidence-based practice. It implements interventions contextual variables that affect the understanding of the community about health and practice. The evidence is gained from the practice as it allows the healthcare system to apply current evidence on clinical expertise and patient values that aid in directing healthcare decisions (Banner et al., 2019). The translation research goes through different stages to advance into evidence-based practice. Evidence-based practices have formed the main pillar in advancing equitable health care and preventive services for the longest time in healthcare.
An example of a health care policy in Rhode Island is the Individual Health Insurance Coverage (RI S2080). This Act proposes that all individual insurers offer cover for ten categories of essential health benefits listed in the Act (Swedloff, 2020). The state is certain that this policy would increase the number of insured individuals in the region, increasing health care access to many people. The Act affects both large insurers and small employer health insurers to cover many Americans. This Act is influenced by the research accomplished in the past indicating that access to healthcare services positively influence individual health outcomes. Translation research forms the basic fundamental unit for success in treating various diseases and meeting healthcare equity in the community. Despite concerns arising from the research, high-risk populations have always found new health insights that improve health.
