What is the main issue for your organization in addressing a solution to evidence-based nursing practice? Discuss what might be the first step in addressing and resolving this issue.

Evidence-based practice (EBP) in nursing practice entails the use of knowledge gained from the best existing credible sources after critical appraisal of the information and using that information to make decisions on the best interventions for patient care (Kim et al., 2020). EBP is an essential tool for the provision of competent and patient-oriented care. However, despite the crucial role played by the EBP, its implementation in the health care settings is low. The poor EBP adoption in the health care system is attributed to various factors such as ethical issues, cost implications, and shortage of clinicians.

The main issue for my organization in addressing a solution to EBP is unsupportive organization policies. Each hospital has set policies that guide and regulate care provided to patients. In my organization, providers are required to comply with the existing care procedures and interventions.  However, the existing policies sometimes contradict the EBP, which causes significant professional and ethical dilemmas among nurse practitioners (Leach et al., 2018). As a result, the organization’s policies may prevent the nurses from the utilization of EBP approaches.

The initial step in addressing and solving the issue of unsupportive organization policies is to advocate for its modification to ensure it aligns with the EBP best practices and also make it flexible to accommodate changes in the organization (Garcia et al., 2019). Given the dynamic and evolving nature of the health care system, organization policies should be highly flexible to accommodate emerging changes. Modification of the policy should consider the interest of nurses by ensuring that nurses are empowered to utilize EBP in their clinical practice (Kim et al., 2020). Importantly, the modifications to the organization’s policies should not compromise patient safety and quality of care.
