The Healthcare system is of great concern in the US as it takes the highest budget allocation each year (DeNisco, 2019). The two major policies affecting the current state of health care delivery and population health is the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Medicaid programs which form the main pillar of the US health care system. These policies have a direct effect on health. This paper focuses on these two major policies and their impact on advanced nursing practice.
The ACA has reduced the number of uninsured Americans, helping more to access healthcare. In the last decade, the cost of health insurance has increased by 144% for a single cover, and the family cover has risen by 161%. However, this policy has played a major role in increasing the number of insured Americans and allowing them to receive better health care (Jarman & Greer, 2020). The enrolment done through ACA marketplaces has accounted for more than half of the insurance gains that further help in insurance assistance. The second policy is Medicaid, which has provided cover to a wide range of low-income adults, children, pregnant women, and people with disability (Mazurenko et al., 2018). This program that is funded by the federal and state governments has increased the number of insured Americans. The simplification of the eligibility criterion also had an impact in increasing the number of Americans to this program.

This implies that the increase of uninsured Americans implies that most people are unable to access healthcare, and nurses would have reduced patients in the health care system (Mazurenko et al., 2018). Medicaid increases access to health care to many people,increasingthe income of the healthcare institutions that further support nursing research for quality improvement. ACA and Medicaid are intertwined policies that affectthe healthcare system.ACA plans to improve healthcare coverage, Medicaid target low-income people, children, and people with disability to be included in the healthcare coverage.
