A crucial conversation refers to dialogue under stress. Crucial conversations are usually daily conversations that impact our lives. Leaders must continually advance their communication skills to enable them to have challenging yet crucial conversations and create a strong culture of open communication in their organizations (Mohammed, 2021). The secret to successful crucial conversation is to apply listening skills. Some listening skills help retrace others’ paths from action to its origin. For instance, one can express their interest in others’ views, respect emotions that others show, and paraphrase some part of their dialogue to demonstrate understanding (Mohammed, 2021). One should also apply communication techniques that support dialogue, like giving facts that lead to a conclusion and presenting data. In addition, one should offer candid but respectful feedback since some people are extremely sensitive to feedback.

Communication is an effective tool that plays a key role in connecting employees. It plays a vital role in breaking the ice among employees, strengthening their relationships, and managing organizational diversity. It is vital for employees to communicate and share their experiences (Inegbedion et al., 2020). Effective communication ensures information reaches all related employees from diverse backgrounds in its desired form. Communication also plays a role in enabling employees to learn about each other’s traditions, customs, religions, and cultures and thus appreciate their diversity. Furthermore, effective communication ensures employees from diverse backgrounds, communities, religions, and age groups create a strong rapport and do not encounter interpersonal problems working together (Inegbedion et al., 2020). Thus, effective communication manages diversity in the organization and promotes a positive ambiance in the workplace.

My previous organization had a diverse workforce with employees from different ethnicities, religions, and communities. The director of human resources organized team-building activities for each department whereby employees were encouraged to talk and share their experiences. The HRO believed that unless and until they do so, they would never fully enjoy their work and would rather treat it as a mere source of burden. Besides, the HRO encouraged departmental heads to allow employees to sit together and talk because if they did not do that, they would treat each other as enemies and find it challenging to work in unison. As a result, there was effective communication among employees, which led to minimal fights. Besides, the employees would solve most of the problems themselves and only took the matters to their supervisors when they were very serious and required their intervent.
