The COVID-19 Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2020 (H.R.6139) is one of the legislations proposed in the last five years. The legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives on July 15, 2019 by Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA). The bill would amend the National Labor Relations Act to provide collective bargaining rights to health care workers employed by hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care facilities.

On March 18, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 6139, the COVID-19 Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2020 (Szymendera, 2020). This legislation would take a number of steps to protect health care workers during the coronavirus pandemic, including providing them with personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard pay, and training on infection control measures (Rana et al., 2020). The bill would also require hospitals and other health care facilities to develop plans for protecting workers from exposure to the virus, and to provide regular updates to employees on the status of these plans. Furthermore, it would create a national reporting system for health care worker infections and fatalities related to COVID-19. The proposition of this bill was a direct influence from different nursing advocacy groups in the United States.

It is important that we continue to advocate for H.R.6139 – COVID–19 Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2020. This bill would provide critical protections for health care workers who are put at risk of exposure to the coronavirus, and it is vital that we do everything we can to support them during this pandemic (Szymendera, 2020). Here are some steps that one can take to continue advocacy for this bill are: -Contacting your local representatives and urging them to vote in favor of the bill; and -Sharing information about H.R.6139 on social media and encouraging others to do the same. Finally, amendments can be done to ensure that the legislation adhere to the healthcare policies
