In order to increase the number of evidence-based practices, healthcare organizations need to invest in research and make use of available data (Orta et al., 2018). Furthermore, clinicians need to be trained in how to apply evidence-based findings to their practice.
Barriers that might hold nursing practice from achieving this goal include the lack of research in some areas of nursing, nurses’ heavy workload, and the difficulty of incorporating research into practice (Alatawi et al., 2020).The impact of lack of research in some areas of nursing can be significant. For example, without research, nurses may not be aware of the most effective treatments for certain conditions or diseases. This can lead to poorer patient outcomes and higher rates of morbidity and mortality. In addition, without research, nurses may not be able to keep up with the latest advances in nursing care, which can also lead to poorer patient outcomes. Lack of research can impact the quality of nursing care overall, as well as the perception of nursing by the public.

Difficulties in incorporating research into practice may interfere with evidence-based practices in nursing because research findings may not be generalizable to clinical practice (Alqahtani et al., 2020).
