Week 7 DQ2

The health care law in the US provides health coverage for many Americans. The cover also protects them from preexisting conditions. Affordable Care Act policy is of the current policies in the US that revolutionized the entire healthcare system (Buettgens et al., 2021). Since ACA was signed into law about 11 years ago, it has transformed the US health care system by expanding coverage to about 20 million Americans, saving thousands of lives. This discussion focuses on the Affordable care Act policy, its history, and the components making it effective.

ACA was signed into law on 23rd March 2010 by former President Barack Obama. The Act advocated for each American to have health insurance and assisted Americans with the inability to afford the plan (Buettgens et al., 2021). The journey of the ACA law started in 2009 when the speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, and a section of democrats from the House of Representatives revealed their plans of transforming the entire health care system.
The need to increase healthcare accessibility to many Americans was one of the manifestos that president Obama promised Americans (Gutierrez, 2018). The political force behind this policy made it gain significance in the US. Besides, after ratification, its significance was already evident in the healthcare system, implying that it was one of the important decisions that the president made for the healthcare sector.

The policy has three major components: expanding access to insurance, increasing the number of consumer protections, and improving the quality of healthcare. The increase in the number of insured Americans based on the first component of the policy is a sign of the positive impact that the policy has on healthcare (Gutierrez, 2018). About 20 million US citizens have gained health insurance coverage since the ratification of ACA. Many people are able to access better healthcare currently as compared to before, implying that the policy has enhanced healthcare delivery among many people by making healthcare affordable. ACA act has changed the perception of healthcare among Americans. The increased number of insured Americans implies that many Americans are able to afford their health needs. Besides, improvement in quality of healthcare delivery has been immense with the enaction of the ACA policy.
