The Foundation of knowledge in healthcare has been established through immense investment in research. The current implementation of EHRs in hospitals across the US stems from vigorous translation and implementation research that aims to reduce medical errors. The growth and adoption of EHR provided a rich clinical data source that offers numerous healthcare benefits (Garcelon et al., 2020). The study on health IT and systems relied on various tests and pilot studies to ascertain its effect on healthcare. Increased innovation and success of the trials made by these studies provided a wide range of benefits such as reducing medical errors to improve population health.

The earliest work of translation research can be traced back over 30 years ago, and each decade, research on technology has been developing more changes in healthcare. The number of reported errors in the last decade has reduced significantly because of the EHRs system that helps healthcare workers record treatment summaries and other important information about patients (Hemingway et al., 2018). Technological application and innovation are still at their pinnacle because many countries are funding translation research that aligns with health technology. When dependable findings are translated in clinical settings, they help improve population health hence triggering more research into how best the EHR can be improved for better patient outcomes. The reduction of medical errors is a quality improvement initiative that has saved many lives in the recent past. The increased use of the EHRs has effectively allowed healthcare workers to reduce medical errors. The translation research played a major role in allowing many hospitals to adopt the technology as a measure of improving safety and quality in healthcare.
