Leadership and economic models
In this tenth week, the focus of the practicum was on leadership and economic models. This area was the most demanding yet fulfilling of my practicum experience. The current healthcare system is complex and fragmented. As such, there is a need for sound leadership and economic ideas to address myriad challenges facing the health care system today. Regarding the economic models, this practicum practice exposed to key economic considerations in healthcare such as production, purchasing, and delivery of care services and the systems that enable such services (Sturmberg & Bircher, 2019). The other consideration was on the behaviors of individual stakeholders, groups, and organizations and the quality, accessibility, and cost of the delivery system as well.
This practicum experience exposed me to the reality that the health care system is highly complex, fragmented, inefficient, flawed, expensive and only a few individuals have unlimited accessibility (Zeigler et al., 2019). Clients need quality and cost-effective care. As nurses, we need to identify the economic realities in the healthcare industry and strive to improve the cost and quality of care. Nurses should be equipped with healthcare economic theory to assist them in evaluating options to lower healthcare costs and determine the pros and cons of such options before making economic decisions. Nurses also need to implement innovative ways of enhancing the value of care through initiatives such as pay-for-performance. However, these changes can only be realized through effective leadership. Nurses should be proactive in leadership roles because they interact with patients more frequently than other care providers and have a unique understanding of patients and their needs (Ellis, 2021). Nursing leadership is crucial in patient examination, diagnosis, treatment, and education to make informed decisions.

Assessment Description
Students are required to submit weekly reflective narratives throughout the course that will culminate in a final, course-long reflective journal due in Topic 10. The narratives help students integrate leadership and inquiry into current practice.
