Informatics is deployed in diverse ways in nursing and the health care sector. It is used for documentation and sharing patient data and health information among providers (Strudwick et al., 2019). Hospitals and systems use informatics to record, update, retrieve, and share patient health information. Secondly, providers use informatics for training and learning based on the objectives to enhance knowledge among practitioners like nurses (Backonja etal., 2021). Nurses get integrated learning and continual education. The management uses informatics to make critical care decisions for better care delivery.

My perception is that before taking the Pre-Tanic Self-Assessment, I had lower levels of competence. Firstly, I was not proficient in using computer systems and protocols. Secondly, I was not familiar with effective use of different approaches to make decisions basing on deployment of informatics. However, after the assessment, I can now interact better with technology and I am now appreciating the important role that it can play in care delivery, especially in enhancing clinical decision-making. I now understand the use of different programs and work with them to attain quality care.

Informatics nursing competencies include computer skills like searching and retrieval of information, informatics knowledge to improve care provision through nursing data analysis, and informatics skills on interpretation of data to make better care and organizational decisions and choices. I work in a busy healthcare system in the emergency department and sometimes in outpatient unit. Critical care provision requires effective and fast decisions to save lives (Hübner et al., 2018). These competencies are critical in these roles. I use computer skills and data interpretation skills to understand electronic medical records and access patient health information to make critical care decisions. I use the records for charting assessment, understanding the vitals and doing documentation.

I need certain resources to develop or enhance my competencies. These include online materials and content, workplace courses and policies that demonstrate the use of these competencies, and better computer skills like PowerPoint for effective presentation and excel sheets to understand data segmentation. The implication is that I should get more resources to learn different aspects of care management for patients in the two units. I intend to enact the improvement plan by using online tutorial, engaging colleagues, and sourcing from the hospital’s resource center. Purpose

The self-assessment is completed using the TIGER-based Assessment of Nursing Informatics
Competencies (TANIC) tool. TIGER refers to the Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform Initiative which identified a list of the minimum informatics competencies for all nurses and students graduating from pre- and post-licensure programs. The graded self-evaluation of your informatics
competencies is required in order to increase one’s own u nderstanding of competencies in nursing informatics which will enable the planning of strategies to enhance knowledge and skills.
Activity Learning Outcomes

Through this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:

1. Apply knowledge of nursing informatics and non-nursing science (CO 1 and 2)
2. Assess nursing informatics competencies (CO2)
3. Evaluate progress in enhancing nursing informatics competencies (CO4)
4. Foster professional and personal development with planning strategies to enhance these
 competencies (CO4)
5. Examine ethical decision making in relation to these competencies (CO3)
