Practicum Experience Plan Paper

Practicum Experience Plan Paper

Introduction

The practicum experience is the forms a central part of nursing education as it transforms the class thinking of the student to the things they are meant to meet in the field. The practicum course is structured and supervised to assess the practical experience in learning. The practicum experience will rely on transcultural nursing theory advocating for culturally competent nurses in mental health (Johnson-Lafleur et al., 2019). Besides, the plan will depend on counseling/psychotherapy theory because the theory is significant in interpreting the patient behavior and feelings. The practicum allows the student to get in touch with the real-world setting by observing and learning from experts. This practicum plan will be used to facilitate my learning during the practicum experience.

Overview:

Your Practicum experience includes working in a clinical setting that will help you gain the knowledge and skills needed as an advanced practice nurse. In your practicum experience, you will develop a practicum plan that sets forth objectives to frame and guide your practicum experience.

As part of your Practicum Experience Plan, you will not only plan for your learning in your practicum experience but also work through various patient visits with focused notes as well as one (1) journal entry.

Conclusion

Incorporating culture in my PMNHP role as a nurse will be one of the recent measures of improving quality in patient care. Transcultural nursing theory has been effective in defining the tactics and treatments that can best support patients’ health. This theory was chosen for the practicum plan because of its impact in meeting the need of many patients who are inclined towards their cultural adherence. Counselling theory was also chosen because psychiatric patients needs a nurse that understand their feelings and can use their behavior patterns to improve care outcomes. In particular, the humanistic aspect of the counseling theory will be implemented to motivate the individuals to achieve the set health goals. The nurses need to prepare adequately in treating patients with a belief system or patients whose cultural background does not readily embrace the suggested standard treatments. My practicum will be an incredible experience. It will help me grow personally and professionally. I will have an idea of what nursing is by understanding the theoretical concepts acquired in class. The experience plan will have the list of activities I will be undertaking to meet the needs of my patients as a transcultural nurse.
