An organization, through management, can adopt various best practices to sustain a change project. As Juvet et al. (2021) posited, organizations must support the employees affected by the change and empower them to adapt to the new normal. Support measures include continuous training and responding to emerging needs and challenges. Empowerment can be through helping employees to adopt new tools and systems as situations necessitate. Laur et al. (2018) further advised organizations to consider building intrinsic motivation and orienting new staff and management. Intrinsic motivation creates a natural desire to adopt new practices and enables employees to perceive change as critical to organizational transformation. Orientation ensures that the entire workforce is engaged in change adoption and resistance is as minimal as possible.
Change Implementation Barriers
Typical barriers include inadequate resources, resistance to change, and a bad culture shift. Resource problems imply that the support needed during the shift to new practices is not provided or is inadequate. Errida and Lotfi (2021) found resistance to change among the leading barriers for change implementation, usually stemming from the lack of employees or stakeholder engagement. It is vital to actively engage the people affected by the change to avoid resistance.
