Evidence-based practice (EBP) requires clinicians to appraise updated literature for the delivery of safe and quality care to patients. In meeting this goal, different research designs are utilized to collect relevant information supporting the effectiveness of a selected EBP intervention. Interpretation of the research outcome will depend on the statistical tests utilized which are selected as per the research design being utilized (Jones et al., 2021). For instance, my research project focuses on the use of mindfulness-based intervention in reducing the levels of stress among acute care nurses. Given that this research design compares two outcomes based on the implemented intervention, the most appropriate statistical test that will be utilized is Pearson’s chi-square test. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate how Pearson’s chi-square test will be utilized in evaluating the outcome of my evidence-based project.

The Pearson’s chi-square test is the most appropriate test for my project as it identifies the significance of related variables (Schober & Vetter, 2019). There are three main variables in my hypothesis. The first variable is the control group which is being held constant, to be compared with the altered variables. The second variable is the dependent variable, which in my case is the impact of mindfulness among acute care nurses. The third variable is the independent variable which is the level of stress among acute care nurses. My null hypothesis states that mindfulness-based intervention does not reduce the level of stress among acute care nurses. As such Pearson’s chi-square test will provide information that determines whether the null hypothesis is true or not, or if there is no change in the variables.
