Evaluation Plan Paper

Evaluation Plan Paper

Evaluation Plan

Infection prevention is an important component of healthcare practice. Nurses and other healthcare providers implement evidence-based interventions that minimize the predisposition of their patients to adverse health outcomes. Evidence-based interventions contribute to safety, quality, and efficiency in patient care. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the evaluation plan that would be adopted for the proposed evidence-based practice project.

Expected Outcomes

One of the expected project outcomes is the significant reduction in the rate of hospital-acquired infections among patients who use soap and water for handwashing. Soap and water and hand sanitizers are effective agents used for infection prevention in hospitals. Both are effective for most hospital-acquired infections. However, soap and water are superior to sanitizers for Clostridium difficile and hands that are visibly dirty (Hoffmann et al., 2021). Therefore, a significant reduction in the rates of hospital-acquired infections is expected in this group of patients compared to those using hand sanitizers alone. The other expected outcome is the increased adoption and consistent use of the project intervention in the project site. It is expected that the organization will incorporate the project into its approaches to promoting safety, quality, and efficiency in patient care (Larsen et al., 2019). Lastly, it is expected that the project will be sustainable. Its sustainability will be seen from its efficiency in resource utilization and promotion of safety and quality in the provision of care in the organization.

An effective data collection tool should be used to obtain accurate and reliable data in the project. Therefore, questionnaires will be used for the data collection process. Questionnaires will be administered to the project participants before and after the project. Patients enrolled inthe project will be followed up to determine their predisposition to hospital-acquired infections. Questionnaires are appropriate due to the ease associated with their administration to the participants. Organizing and analyzing data obtained using questionnaires is also less intensive. The project will adopt a quantitative study design. The design is appropriate since the project will collect numerical data for analysis using mathematical models (Zammitti et al., 2021). The project also aims at developing a hypothesis about the effectiveness of soap and water versus hand sanitizers in preventing and minimizing hospital-acquired infections.

Statistical Test

Paired T-test is the statistical test that will be used in the proposed evidence-based practice project. Paired T-test is a statistical test used in testing the difference existing between two variables obtained from the same population. It is a pre and post-interventional score. The test will aim at comparing the rate of hospital-acquired infections before and after the intervention. The use of paired T-test will provide an accurate picture of the true effectiveness of the interventions in both groups in the project (Kim et al., 2020).

Methods Applied on Data Collection Tool

The data collection tool will be checked for completeness once data collection has been completed. The data will then be ordered and coded for easy analysis. The data will be entered into analysis software to generate summarized information about the effectiveness of the project (Kim et al., 2020). The analyzed data will be used to develop a report about the project outcomes and their implications for practice.

Strategies

Several strategies will be adopted should the project not yield positive outcomes. One of them will be the analysis of the adopted interventions to identify their weaknesses and misalignment with the project objectives. The analysis will also facilitate the identification of inappropriate strategies that are contributing to the negative outcomes of the project. The second intervention is seeking stakeholder input about how to improve the project outcomes. Stakeholders will provide crucial insights into the additional strategies that are needed to achieve the desired outcomes. Their experience with evidence-based practice projects may be beneficial in improving the project outcomes. The other strategy is extending the project deadlines to enable the implementation of new strategies for the project(LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2021). The extension will enable the determination of the effectiveness of the new strategies.

Plans

The project outcomes will determine the adopted plans. For example, the project will be maintained if found to have positive outcomes in the patient care process. Evidence-based practice projects aim at ensuring the realization of optimum care outcomes (Jolley, 2020). The project will also be maintained if found to be efficient and have a high rate of adoption by the healthcare stakeholders. The project will be extended if a small number of participants are obtained. A large participant sample is important in ensuring the generalizability of the project findings. The project will be revised if the strategies fail to deliver the expected outcomes. It will be discontinued if found to harm patients and healthcare providers.

Conclusion

The expected outcomes with the project include a reduction in hospital-acquired infections among the participants in the intervention group and project sustainability. Questionnaires will be used for data collection. A quantitative design will be adopted in the project. Paired T-test will be used for data analysis. Project outcomes will influence the adopted plans during its implementation and post-implementation phase.

In 750-1,000 words, develop an evaluation plan to be included in your final evidence-based practice project proposal. You will use the evaluation plan in the Topic 8 assignment, during which you will synthesize the various aspects of your project into a final paper detailing your evidence-based practice project proposal.

Provide the following criteria in the evaluation, making sure it is comprehensive and concise:

Discuss the expected outcomes for your evidence-based practice project proposal.
Review the various data collection tools associated with your selected research design and select one data collection tool that would be effective for your research design. Explain how this tool is valid, reliable, and applicable.
Select a statistical test for your project and explain why it is best suited for the tool you choose.
Describe what methods you will apply to your data collection tool and how the outcomes will be measured and evaluated based on the tool you selected.
Propose strategies that will be taken if outcomes do not provide positive or expected results.
Describe the plans to maintain, extend, revise, and discontinue a proposed solution after implementation.
Refer to the “Evidence-Based Practice Project Proposal – Assignment Overview” document for an overview of the evidence-based practice project proposal assignments.

You are required to cite a minimum of five peer-reviewed sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and nursing content.

Complete the “APA Writing Checklist” to ensure that your paper adheres to APA style and formatting criteria and general guidelines for academic writing. Include the completed checklist as an appendix at the end of your paper.
