After treatment, patients should adhere to the nutritional advice from health care providers. Unfortunately, adherence is a significant challenge since many factors such as the patient’s age, awareness, and coexisting conditions affect it (Muhammad et al., 2019). Adherence to recommendations on nutritional intake is a serious problem since it affects recovery. Vereecken et al. (2013) found that feedback tailored to people’s nutritional habits is instrumental in improving adherence. The purpose of this paper is to review a current article that supports this topic by identifying interventions for improving adherence to recommendations on nutritional intake.
Article search is not a complex process, provided that the database for searching is available and the topic is general. The initial search produced over 100 articles since it was on “adherence to nutrition recommendations.” To refine the search, the terms were changed to “strategies to improve adherence on recommendations on nutritional intake.” The number of articles reduced and further reduced when filtered according to the year of publication. From the remaining few (17 relevant articles), the article by Muhammad et al. (2019) on adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD) met the criterion for inclusion.

Muhammad et al. (2019) examined the challenges hampering adherence and strategies to improve adherence to nutritional recommendations. The article is a literature review reporting adherence to a gluten-free diet in people with coeliac disease (CD). The primary finding was that adherence rates vary according to patients’ ethnicities. Other factors affecting adherence include knowledge, age at diagnosis, and coexisting depression. According to Muhammad et al. As a result, it will improve practice by ensuring that health care providers have adequate tips for helping patients adhere to nutritional recommendations. According to Muhammad et al. (2019), nutritional counseling and education on food labels can be provided through apps, online training programs, text messaging, and telephonic clinics. The evidence will decrease a gap in practice by creating a more informed patient population- adherence will further reduce problems that patients experience when taking medications, such as fatigue, lack of appetite, and slow recovery. The only concern located in the evidence is that it is entirely about patients with coeliac disease, which can limit its generalization.

Necessary resources include a laptop, internet, and a notebook. It is crucial to share this information since health care professionals should be more conversant with patient education tips to improve adherence to nutritional recommendations. The same tips can be used to improve adherence to medication and maintain a healthy patient-provider relationship.
Adherence to nutritional recommendations is crucial to improving recovery and the patient’s overall health. This discussion highlighted the strategies to improve adherence from a recent article. The primary emphasis is that nutritional counseling and knowledge of labels and food types are critical to improving adherence. Apps, messaging, and online training can help health care providers to achieve this goal. Combined with tailored feedback that Vereecken et al. (2013) proposed, these recommendations can help achieve a healthier population. They would help create a more informed patient population that can make accurate dietary choices.
