Ethics in Biomedical Research Paper

Learning about the history of research ethics has significantly influenced my view of biomedical research. It has made me understand the importance of ensuring the adoption of measures that minimize any form of harm to the study subjects. Learning about history has also broadened my understanding of the roles that researchers play in ensuring the promotion of research integrity. I feel that today’s researchers adequately protect the rights of human subjects. First, researchers in the modern era are highly informed about research ethics. They work with human subjects that are highly informed about their rights in the research process (Barrow et al., 2022). As a result, their increased understanding has made researchers adopt the stated research ethics that promote the protection of subjects’ rights.

Today’s researchers also adequately protect the rights of human subjects due to the involvement of institutions that oversee the research process. Ethics and review boards work closely with researchers to ensure the protection of the rights of the study subjects. The boards ensure that the research methods prioritize the needs of the study subjects. For example, they review if the studies meet the set requirements for ensuring confidentiality, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice in the undertaking of studies. Ethics and review committees also ensure that the autonomy of the study participants is respected by ensuring voluntary participant participation in any study research (Brown et al., 2020). Therefore, the existence of ethics and review boards ensures that researchers protect the rights of human subjects through the adoption of ethical interventions. One recommendation that should be considered to ensure adequate protection of the right of the study participants is educating them. Participant education helps them make informed decisions about their role and involvement in any scientific research.
