Harford country is located in Maryland State in the USA with satellite coordinates of 39.583897 and -76.363731. It has two main cities, Havre de Grace and Aberdeen. The county was founded in 1773, making it 249 years old. The county has a total area of 1360 square kilometers and borders the Atlantic coastal plain and Piedmont plateau. The county has the highest elevation at 805 feet in the northwestern and northern parts, while the lowest parts are located at the Chesapeake Bay (Myers, 2019). The county borders Baltimore, Kent, Cecil, Lancaster, and York counties.

The air quality index of the country is good, with an average of 31, while pollens stand at 7.1. These values are comparable to the Mary land State averages, which are 30 and 7.2, respectively. In addition, the air quality grade is at 65%. One of the environmental concerns is the doubling number of high schools students in the past three years using tobacco. There are arrangements for waste removals in every town in the county, with regular pickups done. Recycling of wastes is also carried out. The water supply in the country is also adequate, and the water is safe. However, from recent reports, there are various minimal contaminants, with fluoride having an average of 0.47 parts per million while chlorine’s average is 1.54. The types of housing in Harford country show variations. The median value of houses in the county is $ 293,400, which is less than $ 314,800 for Maryland State. As of the year 2020, Harford’s population was 260924, presenting a 6.6% increase from the 2010 census, where the total number of people in the county was 244,826, which is growth. The median age is 40.9, while females and males from 51% and 49%, respectively. African Americans form 13.4% of the total population, while 78.6% are white. The other races take the remaining percentage. In comparison to Maryland, the composition of White is notably higher in the county as 55.5% of the State’s population is white (“US census,” 2021). The top causes of morbidity or illness include hypertension, substance use disorder, mental health condition, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. In addition, the top causes of death in Harford include cancer and heart disease as the top two. The population is stable as there was a notable growth between census 2010 and 2020. The infant mortality rate as of 2020 was 10.8 among African Americans and 4.2 among whites per 1000 live births. Overall, the infant mortality rate in Harford was 5.6, which was slightly lower than 5.9 per 1000 live births recorded for Maryland state. As of 2020, the mean household income for the county was $94,003 per annum, which is slightly higher than $87,063 per annum for Maryland (“US census,” 2021).

The common occupation of individuals living in Harford includes professional occupations, with 15.4% of the population having a graduate or professional degree. A further 21.3% have bachelor’s degrees. These values are slightly lower than Maryland, which has 21.5% and 18.6%, respectively (“Harford,” 2021). Major employers include finance and insurance, professional services, manufacturing, accommodation and food services, retail trade, and wholesale trade. The unemployment rate in Harford as of 2020 was 5.8%, a value which is less than 6.7% recorded for Maryland during the same time.  In addition, the poverty level in Harford is 6.2% which is lower than the 9.9% recorded for Maryland.

In terms of education, 4% have less than 9th grade, 5.8% some high schools, 24.6%, high school diploma, 18.7%, some college with no degree, 6.7%, associate degree, 21.5%, bachelor’s degree and 18.6% professional or graduate degree. As compared to Maryland, the corresponding values are 2.3%, 5.1%, 26%, 21.2%, 8.8%, 21.3% and 15.4% (“Harford”, 2021).

Social System   

            Harford County has various educational facilities. The county has thirty-nine elementary schools, twelve middle schools, ten high schools, and three private schools. Harford also has various colleges. For example, the Harford community college (“Harford,” 2021). Currently, the student-to-teacher ratio in Harford is 14.96. This value is comparable to the Maryland ratio, which is 15. The county has various recreational facilities and activities. There are a total of one hundred and ninety, forty-six recreational or nature centers. There are several gyms and sports facilities in the county. The county also has museums such as Havre De Grace Decoy Museum, while several cultural spots are hosted at the Hartford community college. Other facilities include Joppa Hall, which has a Black box theatre.

Harford has several daycare options with an average cost of $200 every week. This value is slightly lower than the Maryland average of $215. Various transportation options also exist. For example, from the 2019 data, 83.8% of Harford drove alone to work, which is higher than the 73.9% average for Maryland. A further 8.0% carpooled, 1.3% used public transport while a further 0.7% used taxicab or motorcycle and other means. There are also data available for the safety and security of the community. The crime rates in the county have been on the decline, and the most recent data indicated rates of 1345 per 100000 people, which is lower than Maryland’s rates (“Harford,” 2021). Top crimes include assaults, robberies, rape cases, and murders.

Harford country has an Emergency medical service that delivers high-quality emergency and prehospital care using ambulances and paramedics. The EMS operational authority is the Harford Country Department of Emergency services (“Harford,” 2021). The county has various healthcare services improving access to care. The upper Chesapeake Health System provides health services. The two hospital systems are Chesapeake medical center and Harford memorial hospital. The county has several places of worship, such as churches. For Example, Harford congregational church, West Lenox Baptist Church, and south Gibson United Methodist church.

The county also has bars, liquor stores, restaurants, and places to get groceries and food. For example, Racer Café and Harford Beverage, Racers café. There are also various restaurants such as Zummo’s café, Lupo’s Charpit, and five guys. In terms of communication services, there are various media, including a newspaper called the Aegis. Radio stations include WAMD, WHFC, and WXCY-FM. Harford cable network offers local TV.

Community health assessment is key as it is important in accomplishing various aspects such as planning for healthcare services and distribution of resources.
