Implementation Plan

Healthcare technologies have significantly transformed health care provision in the modern world. Health organizations rely on health information technologies to provide care that promotes outcomes, including safety, efficiency, and quality. Health information technologies can also be used in the implementation of evidence-based projects, as they enhance the project outcomes. Nurses and other healthcare providers ensure the utilization of effective and appropriate technologies that would drive the desired excellence. Therefore, this paper examines a potential technology that may be used to improve the implementation process and outcomes of the capstone project.

Technology That Could Improve the Implementation Process and the Outcomes of the Capstone Project Change Proposal

Telehealth is an example of a technology that may be used to improve the implementation process and outcomes of my capstone project. Telehealth is a technology that entails healthcare delivery, health information services, and health education through remote technologies. Telehealth enables healthcare providers to provide care to their patients remotely. They deliver healthcare services such as patient assessment, planning, evaluation, and provision of health education to patients. Telehealth technology can be used in undertaking activities that include health education, follow-up, and determination of treatment outcomes in the proposed capstone project (CDC, 2020). Nurses can also use it for evaluating the need for changes or improvements in the adopted project interventions.

Telehealth use in the capstone project is associated with some benefits. First, it enables the provision of patient-centered care. Nurses involved in the project implementation will be able to develop patient-centered treatment plans and follow-up patients enrolled in the project using telehealth. As a result, patient satisfaction and empowerment will be achieved. The other benefit is the reduction in costs of project implementation. Mothers enrolled in the project will not have to travel unnecessarily to the hospital for further management since care interventions will be delivered remotely, leading to cost reduction. Telehealth will also ensure consistency in the utilization of project interventions by the mothers (CDC, 2020). Nurses will followup mothers closely to determine their utilization of project interventions and changes that may be needed to achieve the desired project outcomes.

Barriers That Prevent Its Use

Despite the above benefits of telehealth, its use will not be considered in the project implementation because of its barriers. One of the barriers that hinder its use in the project is the high cost associated with its acquisition. The institution will have to allocate resources for purchasing the required telehealth technologies for the project. It will also have to train its staff on the use of telehealth in the management and prevention of post-partum depression (Jacobson, 2020). The interventions are resource-intensive, which may be difficult for the practice site.

The other barrier is the risk of loss of data integrity. Telehealth technologies are prone to security issues such as hacking that may lead to the loss of private and confidential data. The loss results in ethical and legal issues that will affect the performance of the organization. The other barrier is the need for training patients about the safe use of the technology to ensure data integrity and optimum outcomes. Patients may engage in activities that contribute to data breaches (Balestra, 2018). Therefore, these barriers may affect project outcomes, hence, the consideration of not using telehealth technology in the implementation of the capstone project.

Conclusion

Overall, health information technologies are important for project implementation. They facilitate outcomes, including safety, quality, and efficiency in project implementation. Telehealth is an effective technology that may be used in the implementation of the capstone project. However, its barriers, including the risk of data breach and the high cost of implementation limit its need for the project.
