Organizational Culture and Readiness

Integrating a new evidence-practice intervention in healthcare to improve the healthcare outcome is a significant move toward heightening the quality of healthcare delivery. However, the success of such changes requires an effective assessment of the organization’s culture and readiness for change. Gallagher-Ford and Connor (2020) contend that the assessment offers an important insight level of preparation and cultural perspective concerning the EBP implementation. This process requires a standard tool that would aid in assessing culture and the readiness for EBP implementation. However, undertaking such changes in an organization requires an effective assessment of our organization’s culture and its ability to implement the proposed EBP intervention. The purpose of this paper is to assess organizational culture and readiness by identifying an assessment tool for the effective implementation of the EBP intervention.

Organizational Culture and Support for Change

The need to implement the change is key in improving patient outcomes. However, the success of this intervention requires an organization that is ready to support the change by reducing all barriers to the proposed change and ensuring that all requirements for the change are in place (Hayirli et al., 2021). Besides, it is essential to think about how the proposed change will aid in meeting the missions, values, and vision of Summit Health in N.J. The current management at our institution values EBP and is ready to adopt all options that would drive the hospital to excellence. The need to attain the magnet status also proves that it needs to support this EBP intervention.

The mission of our institution is to improve access to healthcare in underserved communities throughout New Jersey. The leadership team supports this mission by promoting change, eliminating barriers, and improving health access to a wide range of patients (Gallagher-Ford & Connor, 2020). The value that the organization has been aiming to achieve is improved quality and safe care. To succeed in any proposed change, the organization relies on the unity of the interprofessional team to deliver improved care to our diabetic patients. The leadership role in any organization defines the success that the organization would have in the implementation of a new process.

Readiness Assessment Tool

Organizational Cultural and Readiness for System-Wide Integration of EBP Survey tool was found as the most effective that would be effective in assessing our organization. This tool is important in the evaluation of the abilities of an organization to promote EBP intervention in the hospital setting. The tool was used in assessing the basic understanding of the leadership and the staff on the proposed change (Gallagher-Ford & Connor, 2020). Based on the tool, my organization would undergo a need analysis to examine essential skills, knowledge, and attitude toward change. From the survey conducted on the organizational readiness, the percentage of employees in support of the proposed change was 80%, implying that most of the employees were certain that the change would have an impact on raising the quality of delivery in the institution. The average score of the leadership team in support of the proposed change was 70%, implying that the leadership team is positive about the positive impact that the proposed change would have on the organization.

Various challenges are also expected, including a possible lack of support from some employees such as frontline staff who may resist change. This assessment will help us in recording the strengths and weaknesses of nurse skills in response to change and better planning. The management team’s support will also be important in driving the team on the proposed change. Support from the leadership will also be key in helping the implementation team to make the right decision and help formulate a team of champions which will enhance the implementation process

Recommended Health Care Process and Systems

The goal we are trying to meet as Summit Health is to adopt the new intervention to help patients achieve better outcomes. To achieve our goal of improved patient outcomes, our organization will partner with more established organizations which have had a successful, positive outcome similar to interventions. Their experience will be key in helping our organization accomplish the necessary health care process. The interdisciplinary team will also form a partnership with us in this journey to help us achieve better outcomes. Like the I.T. team will help us locate relevant patients to commence the process at the institution (Gallagher-Ford & Connor, 2020). Efforts to improve the quality would need to be measured to show sections that need improvement and determine new barriers affecting the proposed intervention.

Strategies to Improve Readiness

All resources will be aligned towards driving the proposed change in ensuring that the patients achieve the targeted goals. The current treatment invention of multiple daily injections (MDI) has many side effects that affect a wide range of diabetic patients. Besides, the management team will help us create a committee in charge of educating nurses and patients on the proposed treatment. This strategy will prepare nurses and patients for the new intervention and the positive outcome it would have on diabetic patients (Luckenbaugh & Auffenberg, 2018). The team will identify team leaders that can be helpful in driving quality improvement on the proposed project for our institution.

Project Stakeholders and Team Members

The stakeholders in this project will define its success or failure. The increased ability and need to see the project succeed would come from the measures and interventions placed by the stakeholders to achieve the change. Stakeholders in this project include physicians, the management team, nurse managers, and patients. The nurses will aid in recording the change in the patients after the implementation of the new proposed change (Luckenbaugh & Auffenberg, 2018). Each stakeholder has a role to play in the proposed change.

Information and Communication Technologies

Electronic health records (EHRs) system and computerized provider order entry (CPOE) for providers are the main technologies required to implement the proposed EBP. The EHRs will be important in collecting data on the patients at the hospital, while the CPOE will allow doctors to enter order sets on the framework for undertaking the therapy (Kruse et al., 2018). Besides, clinical decision support (CDS) will also be important in preventing medical errors during therapy. These technologies will be important in collecting data significant in making better decisions for the success of the change.

Conclusion

Assessing the readiness of an organization to welcome change is important in the healthcare setting. Assessing the reading of our organization to integrate an EBP intervention shows the level of acceptance and ability of the leadership team to derive the positive change in healthcare. Analysis of organization culture and its readiness to promote change shows that an organization has sufficient skills required in change implementation. Understanding the change among the professional team also aids in eliminating barriers and improving the positive outcome of the proposed change.

In order to successfully implement a change within an organization, the change agent must assess the organization’s culture and readiness for change. In 750-1,000 words, analyze the culture and level of readiness of the organization for which your evidence-based practice project is proposed. You will use the assessment of the organization’s culture and readiness in the Topic 8 assignment, during which you will synthesize the various aspects of your project into a final paper detailing your evidence-based practice project proposal.

Include the following:

1.Describe the organization’s culture and explain to what degree the culture supports change. Consider organizational and leadership structure, mission and values, interprofessional collaboration/team engagement, communication, perception of the organization by employees, etc.
2. Select an organizational readiness tool and assess the level or readiness for change within your organization. Identify the readiness tool and summarize the survey results. Discuss the degree to which the culture will support and sustain an evidence-based practice change. Consider strengths and weaknesses, potential barriers, stakeholder support, timing of the proposal, and resources. Provide rationale.
3. Discuss what health care process and systems you would recommend for improving quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness for the organization.
4. Propose strategies to better facilitate the readiness of the organization.
5. Identify the stakeholders and team members for the project. Include what their duties will be in the evidence-based practice project proposal.
6. Explain what information and communication technologies are needed for the implementation and how they will be integrated in the setting by the internal stakeholders. Explain how these will help improve nursing practice and care delivery for individuals and populations for your intervention.
