Based on how you will evaluate your EBP project, which independent and dependent variables do you need to collect? Why?

This evidence-based practice project proposed the implementation of health education on lifestyle changes to reduce obesity rates among obese adolescents. The evaluation of the outcomes of this project needs the determination of the dependent and independent variables. An independent variable is a variable that is manipulated or varied in a study to investigate its effects. It is independent because it stands alone and is not influenced by other variables in the study (Chatfield & Collins, 2018). In the project at hand, the independent variable needed in the appraisal of the EBP is the adoption of health education on lifestyle changes. The implementation of this independent variable would determine whether or not there will be a reduction in obesity rates among obese adolescents. Therefore, this variable will not be changed and the dependent variables will be manipulated to establish the outcomes of the education program.

On the other hand, the dependent variable is the variable that changes due to the manipulation of the independent variable. It characterizes the outcome that is measured in the study and it depends on the independent variable in the study (Spicker, 2018). In the present project, the dependent variable that would be collected entails the outcomes of health education on lifestyle changes to reduce obesity rates. The collection will be done during and after conducting the education program. The health outcomes in this project include whether or not there is a reduction in rates of obesity among obese adolescents. Evidence demonstrates that obesity puts many obese adolescents at risk of severe health issues that may affect them throughout their lives. The dependent variable is crucial in determining whether or not the proposed health education intervention can reduce the rates of obesity in this population.
