As nurse practitioners continue to expand their role in delivering health care, it is imperative for NPs to provide the data and evidence to demonstrate the impact of NP care on patient outcomes. There are several challenges that advanced practice nurses face to provide quality care and meet productivity goals of an organization. This week it is important to explore the connection of quality care and performance measures. Some questions to consider as we discuss this topic are:

· Why are incentive plans used in clinical organizations?

· Explore quality measures and identify at least one clinical performance measure, such as the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)

Post an explanation of the importance of quality measures using the clinical performance measure you identified as an example. Then, identify the performance measures used for NP productivity in Rhodes, Bechtle, and McNett (2015) article. Finally, share your opinion on incentive payment for care, including external motivators and at least one business model.
The demand for standardized techniques to characterize, quantify, compare, and assess delivery system changes has grown as a result of recent and ongoing innovation in health-care delivery and reimbursement systems in the United States.
Patients, providers, researchers, legislators, payers, and other stakeholders would benefit from a shared taxonomy of delivery system features, which would allow for better communication and transparency about these changes, potentially improving the quality of decisions and care.
The Institute of Medicine has designated comparative effectiveness research (CER) as “the generation and synthesis of evidence that compares the benefits and harms of alternative methods to prevent, diagnose, treat, and monitor a clinical condition or to improve the delivery of care,” and has defined CER as “the generation and synthesis of evidence that compares the benefits and harms of alternative methods to prevent, diagnose, treat, and monitor a clinical condition or to improve the delivery of care.”
Despite this, there is no universally accepted way to describe care delivery units or systems, which range from independent individual provider units to big integrated health systems.
As a result, stakeholders are unable to determine the generalizability of a study or an innovation presented in one environment due to a lack of a consistent language for characterizing delivery systems.
Depending on whether the intervention is implemented in a large integrated care system or a small independent practice, and whether clinicians are salaried or paid on productivity, the effectiveness of the intervention may vary significantly.
We propose a conceptual framework for describing health-care delivery systems that will enable health-care stakeholders to better understand, assess, disseminate, and implement delivery system innovation in a more informed, transparent, and stakeholder-centered manner, as well as compare them.
Our goal is to present the framework’s domains and elements, as well as the methods used to develop it and examples of its potential application in various circumstances.
