Amoxicillin is an antibiotic commonly used to treat strep throat and middle ear infections among others. The mode of action of amoxicillin is similar to penicillin since its bactericidal effect is evident in the stage of active multiplication. The antimicrobial agent inhibits the synthesis of the cell walls which eventually results in the death of the bacteria.

Amoxicillin is contraindicated in patients with serious hypersensitivity reactions such as anaphylaxis shock and the stevens-johnson syndrome. Some individuals are allergic to penicillin and cephalosporin. Therefore, a patient’s allergic history must be taken before prescribing the Amoxicillin (Alemkere et al., 2019). The common side effects of amoxicillin include abdominal cramps, tarry stool, loosening of the skin, bloating, and blood in urine among others. Therefore, the monitoring considerations include checking for the signs of allergic reactions and pulmonary symptoms in the patients. The allergic reactions can be severe leading to a compromise in the breathing system among other complications. Amoxicillin interacts with erythromycin base, clarithromycin, aztreonam, and amiloride and thus should not be administered together. Alternatively, the dose administered should be reduced to avoid toxic plasma concentrations for the medication constituents.

Antibiotic resistance is becoming a common challenge and so all patients being prescribed any of the antibiotics must be educated on the need to adhere to their prescriptions. Besides, all patients should be educated on the need to avoid misusing antibiotics (Shu et al., 2022). The World Health Organization guidelines on antibiotic use emphasize the need to consider dosage based on the age group. Furthermore, in treating patients with people with infectious diseases, their past medications must be considered to avoid treatment failure (Browne et al., 2021). The medication should be substituted to the subsequent class in case the first-line treatment fails.

Using the treatment guidelines, select an antimicrobial medication that interferes with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. Share the antibacterial spectrum and hints for monitoring, side effects, and drug interactions, including interactions with CAM. Discuss how you could integrate antibiotic resistance education with all patients for whom you prescribe an antibiotic. Discuss evidence and treatment guidelines to determine appropriate therapeutic options for a patient with an infectious disease. Include the name of the medication in the subject line so that the medications can be followed. Include references in APA format.
